UK snow: Expert reveals exact dates horror -7C snow plume to hit Britain
EXCLUSIVE: An expert has detailed the areas and dates when the UK is set to be caked with snow.
Britain will be battered with layers of snow as temperatures plummet as low as -7C in parts of the country.
A minor shift in the jet stream in the upcoming week might usher in colder air across a broader expanse of the UK, potentially causing bands of rain from the Atlantic to transform into snow.
The latest weather maps suggest Arctic air will bring sleet and snow showers for northern Scotland next week, but the southern half of the UK is expected to stay mild with some rain at times.
Maps from WXCharts show that parts of Scotland will see snow from Wednesday (February 6) and it will start spreading to the southern areas as we approach the weekend.
By Friday and Saturday, the areas from Wick to Scarborough will receive snow with the heaviest snow showers received in areas around Inverness and Fort William. Maps show these areas will see 19-22 cm snow depth during that period.
As the country braces for another cold snap, Express.co.uk spoke to a weather expert to unfold the weather circumstances.
Phil Morrish said: “There's a possibility of more snow by Thursday and Friday next week as the cold weather starts to push down from Scotland.
“By this time next week, it looks much colder. The day temperatures in southern England are going down to 2-3C and 1-2C in northern England."
There will be ground frost at night with temperatures down to -5C to -7C in Scotland with some snow around. It’s too early to say how much snow there will be or how long it will last, but it looks like the cold spell will be here for at least three or four days.
Mr Morrish added: "Ddetails are yet to be seen as seven days is a long time in weather. It will take a few more days to get more clarity but it does look like it’s turning cold Thursday and Friday next week.

“By this time next week, it will be much colder for a while with some snow around.”
The weather is likely to stay mild this week before the cold air sweeps the country.
Mr Morrish added: “Starting this weekend with very mild weather, we have high pressure to the South, pushing very mild air over us. This is going to continue right through the weekends into Monday and Tuesday.
"Temperatures will be around 14-15C, which is extremely high for February.
“After that, the high pressure will move a little bit further West and allow a cold arctic northerly wind to start coming down by Wednesday and Thursday. The exact time of this looks a long shot but it looks like there will be some snow showers.”
The Met Office's long-range forecast from February 7-16 said: "[It will be] initially unsettled with cloud and rain across a still mild south whilst clearer and colder conditions across the north with some wintry showers in the far north.
"Rain likely pushing back north late in the week with potential for snow for a time across the northern edge of this alongside gusty winds."
They added: "Through the weekend a change toward a north or north-westerly wind will bring cold conditions spreading across the UK with wintry showers across coasts but clearer inland as rain clears southeast.
"A further change of type is expected by mid-week as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant allowing winds to drop. Temperatures potentially recovering to average with this, though any prolonged clear skies liable to bring localised frosts and fog risk."
