UK floods: London underwater as torrential rain grinds capital to halt
TORRENTIAL rain hit the capital in the early hours of Tuesday morning, leaving large parts of London underwater.
BBC Weather: Heavy rain and low temperatures forecasted
Large stretches of the capital’s transport system and city centre shopping areas are reportedly flooded.
Widespread weather warnings have been issued across England and Wales on Tuesday.
Heavy rain is expected throughout the day and there may be some minor flooding.
The warning is in place until midnight tonight and covers areas such as Manchester and Newcastle.
Tyne and Wyre Fire and rescue service report a number of 999 calls relating to floods
Tyne and Wyre Fire and Rescue service have received a number of 999 calls due to flooding.
They have advised the public not to call 999 for minor flooding and only to call if there is an immediate risk to people and property.

Climate activists have pointed out that the flooding which occurred in London overnight and was exacerbated by the effects of climate change, has caused widespread disruption to roads.
This comes as members of the public became outraged at climate protestors blocking major roads to make their voices heard.

Mayor of London says flooding shows dangers of climate change are coming closer to home
A spokesperson for Sadiq Khan said: "Flash flooding in some areas of London last night is causing concern and anxiety for many Londoners and it shows once again that the dangers of climate change have moved closer to home.
"It remains a key priority for the mayor and London's council leaders that more is urgently done to tackle the risk of surface water flooding and the other impacts of the climate crisis."

Pet charity shares advice on how to keep pets safe in floods
Pet charity Blue Cross has shared some advise about how to protect pets during floods.
Advise includes:
-Keep portable pet carriers close to hand-Bring small animals indoors and, if possible, upstairs-Move pet food, bedding, water and toys to somewhere safe and dry-Consider moving animals to a friend or family member who lives outside the flood risk area
More advise can be found on the Blue Cross website.

Heavy rain has affected large parts of the UK today and is expected to continue throughout the week.

Waze reports huge delays on London roads
Sat-nav app Waze has reported huge delays on the roads as flooding affects road infrastructure and public transport
Ruairidh Roberts, UK Country Manager at Waze, said: “Heavy rainfall in London overnight has led to increased levels of traffic this morning, with roads and the Underground both affected by flooding.
"Average speeds are as low as 3mph in some areas, including Knightsbridge, Putney Heath and Blackheath.
“Road closures, weather hazards and congestion levels are reflected on Waze’s live map, thanks to our community of users, map editors and city partners in London.
“We encourage all drivers to check weather alerts and plan their journeys before setting off, and only travel if it is safe to do so. If drivers do encounter difficulties, they can use the Roadside Assistance feature in the app to seek help.”

Yellow warning issued for large parts of England
The Met office has issued a yellow warning for large parts of the UK, which is in place until midnight on Tuesday.
The warning stretches from Norwich to some parts of Scotland and means that some homes and businessess could be flooded.

The Government has issued 5 flood warnings ( meaning flooding is expected) and 64 flood alerts ( meaning flooding is possible) for Tuesday.
