Biden 'not taken reponsibility' for US Marines' deaths during Afghanistan withdrawal
A suicide bomber killed 13 US Marines and at least 170 Afghans in an attack during the chaotic withdrawal
Joe Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal was a ‘disaster’ says expert
Joe Biden has failed to take responsibility for the deaths of 13 US Marines who were killed in Kabul during the 'catastrophic' withdrawal from Afghanistan, a congressional hearing has been told.
The family members of some of the 13 US Armed Forces personnel killed by a suicide bomber during the chaotic withdrawal were asked if they thought the President or his administration had "taken ownership and accountability" for the deaths of their loved ones. All three shook their heads.
Eli Crane, a former Navy Seal and Republican representative for Arizona, said: "Neither do the American people." The suicide -bomber's blast that killed 13 US service men and women also took the lives of at least 170 Afghans.
Rep. Brian Mast, chairman of the House subcommittee on oversight and accountability, acknowledged the mother of Sgt. Nicole Gee, the mother of Cpl. Hunter Lopez, and the parents of Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, who were among those who died in the attack at Hamid Karzai airport in August 2021.
"Thank you for raising patriots and I'm sorry for your loss," he said, before lambasting the withdrawal from Afghanistan - and laying the blame at Biden's feet.
"The president's withdraw was a complete and utter catastrophe," said Rep Mast. "The images of people hanging off of planes and desperate parents handing their babies over the airport walls to soldiers are seared into our country's collective conscience."
