Meghan Markle's ex-pal blasts 'utterly selfish' Coronation decision
The former friend has hit out at Meghan after it as revealed she will not be attending the Coronation of father-in-law King Charles next month.
Meghan Markle has been branded “utterly selfish” by a former friend for not attending the upcoming Coronation of King Charles III.
British TV presenter Lizzie Cundy, who first met Meghan in 2013, described the decision as a “travesty”, even accusing the Duchess, 41, of putting her own feelings before her children. Cundy is particularly upset that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will not be present on May 6.
She told The Mirror: “I think it’s a travesty that Lilibet and Archie are not going to be at their grandfather’s coronation.
“What will Harry and Meghan say to them when they’re older? When they say, ‘Why weren’t we there at the most historical moment in British history? Why weren’t we on that balcony?'”
Cundy, 54, believes Meghan isn’t attending the momentous event at Westminster Abbey in London because she “knows she’s going to get booed”.
She added: “What will Meghan answer? [when her children ask her why they weren’t there]. ‘I knew I was going to get booed, so I didn’t want to go. She’s putting herself before anyone in fact.”
Cundy first met Meghan 10 years ago when she was asked to sit next to the former Deal or No Deal briefcase girl at a charity event.
She reportedly tried to set up the then-single Meghan with footballer Ashley Cole, but the two friends stopped speaking when Meghan began a relationship with Harry.

The comments come after Buckingham Palace confirmed Harry will be flying to the UK on his own for his father’s Coronation, while Meghan stays in California with their children.
A brief statement on Wednesday said: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
There had been speculation for months about whether they would attend after the couple failed to respond to an official invitation.
This will be Harry’s first reunion with members of the Royal Family since the January release of his controversial memoir, Spare.
According to reports, royal sources will offer "basic" greetings to the Duke.
