M25 CLOSED: M25 traffic update as three lorries in horror crash causes queues for MILES
THE M25 has been closed after three lorries collided on the busy motorway, sparking long delays between Junction 13 and Junction 14.
Motorists have been caught in long queues between Staines and Heathrow Airport following the horrific crash at around 2:30pm.
Three lanes of the motorway have been closed and queues are tailing back for eight miles, causing chaos for drivers in rush hour.
Surrey Fire & Rescue raced to the scene to help clean up a large fuel spillage.
Pictures taken at the scene show that three HGVs were been involved in the crash, including one carrying a small tractor.
The M25 remains closed clockwise within Junction 13
It is not yet known when the motorway, one of the busiest in the UK, will reopen.
The fuel spillage could mean even longer delays for motorists because diesel can corrode tarmac, according to Surrey Live.
Highways England initially closed three of the four lanes on the carriageway, then closed the main carriageway at 2.45pm.
A Highways England spokesman said: "The M25 remains closed clockwise within Junction 13 (Staines) following this afternoon's collision and spillage.
"Traffic has been diverted via exit and entry. Once the recovery is complete, our service providers will begin to treat the spillage and barrier damage."
Surrey Fire & Rescue tweeted: "Crews are currently dealing with an road-traffic collision involving 3 HGVs on the M25 at Junction 13."
Drivers stuck in traffic have taken to social media to vent their frustration about the long tailbacks on the M25.
