Labour MP claims Theresa May has already chosen a soft-Brexit
Labour shadow Brexit minister, Jenny Chapman, claimed Prime Minister Theresa May had already decided that staying the customs union was the only option post-Brexit.
Ms Chapman told BBC Radio 5 Live, Theresa May was simply waiting to work out how to “break” the news to her colleagues.
She said: “The debate in the cabinet is they can’t agree on whether we need to be in the customs union or not.
“But, what people have missed is that one of the amendments that were put down as part of the EU Withdrawal Bill was that there will be no hard border in Northern Ireland.
“No controls, no checks, nothing. Now the only way you achieve that is in a customs union.
“What’s happening is that Theresa May, I believe, has decided that a customs union, calling it whatever she likes, is the right way to go.
“Has not yet worked out how to break this to her colleagues.”
The Prime Minister has repeatedly ruled out keeping the UK in the single market and customs union post-Brexit.

Remaining in the EU’s customs union would decimate Britain’s chances of being able to strike post-Brexit trade deals around the world after ties have been cut with the EU.
The Prime Minister is set to travel to Brussels this week for the European Council summit.
A Downing Street spokesman said: "On the Brexit negotiations, the Prime Minister looked forward to discussing the continuing progress we have made on issues relating to the UK's withdrawal and work to build towards a deep future partnership.
"The Prime Minister said the UK will be setting out more detail on the UK's vision for the future relationship in a white paper after the June Council."
