First class! VIP flight to save stricken seal pup
A SEAL pup has been flown “first-class” for specialist treatment after being found abandoned on a remote island. The tiny female harbour seal, less than two weeks old, was rescued by a vet alerted by locals in the Outer Hebrides.
She was assessed as needing extra help and whisked by Scottish airline Loganair to Glasgow to be transferred on to a wildlife centre.
David Buckland, the vet who first went to her aid on the isle of Eriskay, accompanied her on the hour-long flight.
And she happily posed for photos in a pet carrier beside members of the plane’s crew including stewardess Elaine
McWilliams and pilot Rimante Mizaraite.
Loganair managing director Jonathan Hinkles said:
It was a pleasure to make sure the seal pup was given first-class service for her first time on board an aircraft
“It was a pleasure to make sure the seal pup was given first-class service for her first time on board an aircraft. We’re always glad to help.”
Colin Seddon, manager of the National Wildlife Rescue Centre where the pup is being cared for along with a young male rescued from the island of Eigg, said she was expected to make a full recovery.
The Scottish SPCA has launched a competition to give her a name.
