The 62-year-old was left "absolutely gutted" when his application was rejected.
Not only did he miss his daughter Charmaine's wedding in Cyprus on April 4, he now fears deportation.
He came to Britain with his parents from Jamaica as a seven year old boy in 1963, initially settling in London before moving to Leeds.
He has run a successful business as an electrician, paid taxes, bought and sold properties and fathered five children in the country he calls home.
Shocking: Joseph Bravo was refused a passport despite living in Britain since he was 7-years-old
But his UK immigration status had never been formalised.
Mr Bravo says he had a passport in the 1970s. However, his applications for another passport were rejected in 2010 and again in 2016 because officials could not find proof of his status.
Mr Bravo said: "I feel let down. Basically, they're saying I'm an illegal immigrant, because they can't find me on a computer.
"How can they not find me? I've got a National Insurance number, doctors' records, a driving licence, I went to school here. I've got records of where I lived since I came into the country.
"They're saying I don't exist."
