Stalybridge fire: Mill engulfed in huge blaze, locals told to close windows and stay away
A FIRE in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, has engulfed a mill with more than 50 firefighters called to the five storey building. Locals have been told to close windows and doors as smoke spreads through the area.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, before midnight.
Nearby residents have been asked to keep windows and doors closed.
Incident Commander Billy Fenwick said: "This mill is well alight but our firefighters are working hard to bring it under control.

"As a precaution I would ask all nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed to prevent any smoke from entering their homes.”
"Please also ensure you stay away from the nearby area and do not drive nearby for both your safety and to make sure we can fight this fire."
Firefighters used two aerial appliances to tackle the blaze.
The mill is located in an industrial area, next to the River Tame.
Tame Street and Clarence Street were both closed.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.

At this stage it is also not known if anyone was injured in the fire, or how much damage was done to the mill.
