Gritty Gritty Bang Bang – Scotland's snowploughs get nicknames
Thousands of Scots have been glued to their screens following Traffic Scotland’s salt-spreaders and snow ploughs.
Many of the 208 specialist trucks have had nicknames – including Sir Andy Flurry, Sir Salter Scott and Gritty Gritty Bang Bang – painted on their hoppers.
The Gritter Tracker was launched to update Scotland’s drivers on the number of vehicles sent out to treat the roads.

The names were introduced by the individual companies operating parts of the fleet and roads body Bear Scotland staged competitions for primary schools to name their local 32-tonne, eight-wheeled gritters.
A spokesman for Bear Scotland said: “We had a great response from the schools that were involved with the competition.
“We now have the likes of Sprinkles, Mrs McGritter and Sir Grits-a-lot out working on trunk roads across the north of Scotland.”
