Disputed gold wreath will be sent back to Turkey from Scotland
A MAN involved in a legal wrangle with police and the Turkish government over an ancient golden wreath, above, has agreed to return the artefact to Turkey.
Murat Aksakalli claimed he inherited the item, valued at £250,000, from his grandfather.
The wreath, thought to have been sealed in a tomb in 350BC and later stolen by grave robbers, was seized in 2010 by Lothian and Borders Police when Mr Aksakalli tried to sell it to undercover detectives in a sting operation.
Parties involved in the case settled before proceedings at the Court of Session in Edinburgh and the Turkish government will take possession of the wreath.
