Police FINE farmer for protecting his flock after issuing warning about danger pets
A FARMER who tried to protect his sheep from an out-of-control dog has been fined by the police.
Farmer Jonathan Sloan received a £40 fine for hitting an out-of-control dog threatening his flock
Jonathan Sloan received a £40 penalty for hitting the dog with his crook to stop it harming his prize-winning flock in Kinross-shire.
The incident took place days after police launched a campaign to raise awareness among dog owners about the devastating effects of attacks on livestock.
Mr Sloan, 28, of Springfield Farm, Wester Balgedie, said the Husky-type dog had been harrying his Blackface flock for up to 20 minutes.

This was quite distressing and could have been so much worse. I’m just thankful none of my sheep seem to have been injured
He added: “This was quite distressing and could have been so much worse. I’m just thankful none of my sheep seem to have been injured.”
Mr Sloan was forced to act after neighbours told him his animals were in danger as the dog’s owners failed to bring it under control.
Police were called after a row with the dog’s owners.

Farmers call for 'certainty' as the UK prepares to leave the EU
Mr Sloan was then fined after being accused of “threatening behaviour”.
The farmer said the decision was “inexplicable” as no action is to be taken over his claims of sheep worrying.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that a man had been issued with a fixed -penalty notice following a “disturbance”.
