THE vast majority of foreign students are not outstaying their British visas, new checks revealed.

The Government has launched an investigation into the impact of foreign students on the UK.
Checks on non-European nationals whose visas expired in 2016-17 found 97.4 per cent of some 181,000 students left before their permission to stay ran out.
Lord Green of Deddington, chairman of Migration Watch UK, said the figures were “a success story” for the Government’s crackdown on abuse of the student visas system.

Measures include closing more than 900 bogus and low quality colleges which acted essentially as scams to get people into the country.
The Home Office has asked its Migration Advisory Committee to carry out a major inquiry into the impact of international students on society and the economy.
It will look at the effect of both EU and non-EU students on the local and national labour market and on the economy, including the impact of tuition fees and other money they spend while in the UK, and their impact on the quality of education received by British students.
