Chris Bryant, also a musical writer, said he was trying to find light after the Brexit vote, with his play Brexit the Musical.
Speaking on Al Jazeera, Mr Bryant slated the “ridiculous” situation of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and Donald Trump’s election as US president.
He said: “One of the very few silver linings that I can find is effectively the rebirth of satire.
“That combined with Donald Trump, now we’re seeing lots of satire.

Real life is actually taking over from satire and becoming even more ridiculous
“The only danger we have is that real life is actually taking over from satire and becoming even more ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, a comedian mocked young Remainers for their resentment of elderly Brexit voters in a BBC sketch by pretending to break down in tears.
Nish Kumar described himself as a “representative” of the younger generation as he poked fun at where their blame lied over the UK’s decision to leave the European Union.
The Mash Report host discussed recent figures, which show 61 per cent of Leave voters over 65 years old believed “significantly damaging the economy” was a price worth paying for Brexit.
Quoting the YouGov stats, the presenter then made a tongue-in-cheek plea to the pensioners.
He said: “Now speaking as a representative of the younger generation, let me just ask older Leave voters one question.
“Why do you hate us? Was it fidget spinners? Was it the Kaiser Chiefs, was it the Star Wars prequels?
“We hate them too.”
