The boy, believed to be 16, was attacked yesterday shortly before 2pm outside the William Ellis School in Highgate.
Another teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and was last night being questioned by police.
It is not thought that the alleged victim or his suspected assailant were pupils at the school, which sits next to Hampstead Heath and counts legendary comic actor Andrew Sachs, Conservative MP Bernard Jenkin and renowned rock producer Nigel Godrich among its former pupils.
