We are in charge of our own destiny, our own borders, we can determine who we want to come in
“We are going to control that. Our infrastructure cannot cope with open borders.”
A lady behind him countered with a single statement: “I think that was a mainly Tory press headline.”
He was responding to a man in audience who said: “I voted Remain because I agree we are stealing the future from the youngsters.

Alex Cole Hamilton, a Scottish Liberal Democrat, said during the Newsnight debate: “The Leave campaign evaporated on June 24 and we believe the British people should be given the chance to stay in the EU.
The liberal Democrat claimed the UK did not have to leave the EU
“It is astonishing to hear the land of hope and glory rhetoric from the Conservatives.
“We should be given the chance to stay in the EU. The millions of citizens from the EU who live and work in this country are being used as a bargaining chip in negotiations.”
The Newsnight debate split the audience into over 60's and under 30's for the debate
A young lady said: “I was not old enough to vote in the EU referendum and yet my future has been plunged into uncertainty by the older people who voted to leave the EU.
“I want to live in the sort of country that embraces different cultures and embraces them as citizens.”
The young man was optimistic that the UK would make a success of Brexit
An audience member from the over 60’s section added: “My granddaughter goes to a school with 13 nationalities, including asylum seekers and refugees, their education has been greatly enriched. If that was to stop this country would be poorer for it.”
The audience were asked if they felt optimistic about the future and despite the claps and cheers from Remainers, one brave man from the under-30’s group raised his hand.
He said: “I am optimistic, we have a great opportunity to speak to other countries which we haven’t had the chance to do before. America is reaching out, they want to talk to us and we can create successful trade deals regardless of the EU.”
