Furious pensioners set to hold protest against closure of regular bingo night
HUNDREDS of angry pensioners are planning a protest after their regular bingo night was cancelled for the first time in 40 years.

They are having to give way to a private function for students – so they intend turning up with banners for a demonstration outside the hall next week.
Droves of avid players have not missed their Tuesday night session at Mecca Bingo in Exeter, Devon, since the 1970s.

One protester said: “We’re very angry. The way that it was put to us was that they want to get the oldies out and get the youngsters in.
“But we are the ones that have kept it going for the past 40 years. Hundreds of us go regularly on a Tuesday.”
She added: “They could section off several tables and keep us all separate from the students, but we shouldn’t be banned.”

Mecca Bingo said: “We are open every day except Christmas Day. As a one-off event, we will be closed on Tuesday evening for a private function. We chose our quietest night to inconvenience as few of our regulars as possible.
“We’re very sorry to hear some of our customers are upset.”
