Pensioner dies after hit by bus in Edinburgh
A PENSIONER has died after being hit by a bus on a pedestrian crossing and apparently being dragged under its wheels.

The horrifying incident occurred yesterday in Edinburgh and is now being investigated.
One eyewitness said: “I was walking down the road to my work when I saw a female fall under the bus. At first, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was awful.
“People came to help and then the fire brigade turned up. The police just told us to go and wait in the street until they could speak to us. It was just such a horrible thing to witness.”

The identity of the victim, who was 70, has not been released.
The incident took place around 9.30am at the junction of Quality Street and Main Street in the city’s Davidson’s Mains area.

Inspector Stuart Mitchell of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this very difficult time and we continue to offer them support.
Police are asking witnesses to come forward
“Our inquiries into this collision are ongoing and we would ask anyone who can help to come forward. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision and has not yet spoken to officers is urged to get in touch.”
Last night, a Lothian Buses spokesman said: “Our condolences go to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident. We are working with the police to support their investigation.”
