EU migrants ‘could CONTINUE coming to Britain YEARS after Brexit’, think tank claims
BRITAIN may have to allow European Union migrants to enter the country “several years” after Brexit due to the challenge posed by setting up a new immigration system, a report has warned.
EU migrants could continue coming to the UK after Brexit for 'several years'
The Institute for Government, an independent think-tank, warned Theresa May would be unable to set up a new system before the EU departure deadline of April 2019.
The report said: “The Prime Minister has recognised that an 'implementation phase' will be required post-Brexit.
It would take years to set up a new immigration system, the report warned
“For immigration, this will require the continuation of free movement, possibly for several years post-Brexit.”
The report said the UK risks major economic harm if it closes borders before any future system is implemented, meaning Brussels’ hated freedom of movement laws would have to continue.
Mr Juncker is said to have left the meeting “10 times more skeptical” about Brexit than before his visit.
And now Mrs May has lashed out at European officials, accusing Brussels of meddling in the election campaign in a bid to wreck Brexit.
