Peers STILL trying to stop Brexit 'CALAMITY', claiming 'people weren't informed'
A REMAINER life peer blasted Brexit claiming it should not happen now more details are emerging as “people were not informed”.
Baroness Meacher talks about failed ‘remain’ campaign
Baroness Meacher, a former social worker, described Brexit as a calamity and claimed the Government was beginning to understand the scale of the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU).
Speaking on RT, the cross bench peer said a lack of planning by former prime minister David Cameron and his administration in the event of a ‘Leave’ vote meant British citizens lacked knowledge on the move.
Put to her that it was difficult for the previous Government to plan for Brexit because polls indicated there would be a Remain vote, she replied that was a reason why the UK should remain within the EU.
Baroness Meacher said the UK should not leave the EU as "people were not informed"
They are beginning to realise the enormity of the calamity that they’re creating for this country
She said: “On that basis we shouldn’t leave, should we, because people were not informed, the whole thing was badly planned.”
Discussing the fact Brexit now had parliamentary backing and was happening, Baroness Meacher added Theresa May’s team was now realising the “enormity of the calamity” of the process.
She said: "I think they are beginning to realise the enormity of the calamity that they’re creating for this country, I do believe they’re now beginning to understand that but of course they’re now committed to trying to have a deal.
“We will not have a deal in my view.”
Meanwhile Italy’s deputy finance minister has said Brexit will not have a “disastrous economic” effect on the UK once it leaves the bloc.
Enrico Morando called for a “more realistic and measured” approach to the European Union divorce process and said there would be no “doomsday” scenario.
