A GANG who targeted elderly drivers in a £700,000 “crash for cash” con have been jailed for a total of 42 years and seven months.

The group of 12 men and women caused 41 accidents in Derbyshire and then illegally claimed money from insurance companies.
The claims included personal injury, damage to vehicle and recovery and storage costs.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that their targets were “lone and elderly” drivers.
The gang drove in pairs. The first car got ahead of the target car then swerved suddenly.
The second car would brake violently forcing the victim to drive into the back of them.

The five male ring leaders were found guilty of fraud and each received five years jail and disqualified from being a director of a company for eight years.
A further six received lesser jail terms for fraud and a seventh awaits reports before sentence.
Ben Fletcher at the Insurance Fraud Bureau said: “Fraudsters have little regard for the impact that crash for cash has on society.”
