'Rejoice!' Diane Abbott is laughing stock once again as Andrew Neil ridicules her on BBC
DIANE ABBOTT was again ridiculed on This Week which took credit for her voting to trigger Article 50.
Andrew Neil 'rejoices' that Diane Abbott has made a full recovery
The Labour frontbencher voted for the Government's Brexit bill after failing to make the second reading of the bill last week due to having a migraine.
The Shadow home secretary faced calls to resign after she failed to vote on the legislation and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn reportedly warned her to back Brexit or be kicked out.
This Week presenter Andrew Neil tore into Ms Abbott last week offering his sarcastic concerns and worrying if she had been struck down by "Brexit flu".
He has now called for the public to "rejoice" after implying the programme's #prayfordiane hashtag, which trended on Twitter, played a part in Ms Abbott casting her vote.
Andrew Neil suggests #prayfordiane hashtag helped Diane Abbott vote on Brexit
Yes our prayers were answered. So rejoice!
Neil sarcastically said: "We pride ourselves on being of a religious bent here on This Week and we're often derided for it by the secularist metrosexuals that dominate the upper echelons of the BBC.
"But not anymore. Not after our hashtag #prayfordiane campaign resulted in Madame Mao rising Lazarus-like from her death bed to rude health once more."
He added she had bounced back to be the "shining beacon of political wisdom and integrity that we know and love" and cheekily referred to her reported encounter with Brexit Secretary David Davis in a Commons bar.
Neil went on: "Yes our prayers were answered. So rejoice! rejoice! together we made it happen #prayfordiane amen."
The segment resulted in mixed reaction from viewers.
Mitch Blood tweeted: "On-air bullying of Diane, to complement the rancid online abuse she already suffers. You should be ashamed."
But, another was less sympathetic and jokingly said: "How is Diane? I do hope @HackneyAbbott is better? Poor poor thing. ;-) #prayfordiane"
Diane Abbott: This is not a Tony Benn Brexit, it's a Trump Brexit
The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington had faced calls to resign her position last week after Mr Corbyn enforced a three-line whip calling on MPs to back the Government’s plans to push forward with Brexit.
Ms Abbott is one of the most pro-EU members of the Labour Party and it was widely suggested she had deliberately avoided the vote.
Neil previously said the nation’s “heart sank” on hearing Ms Abbott had been "taken ill".
Diane Abbott has endured a bruising few weeks over Brexit
After voting for the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill at third reading on Wednesday, she said: "I think that a Tory Brexit is going to be quite disastrous.
"I don't believe we've given a blank cheque, no. We're going to be holding them to account on the floor of the House."
Ms Abbott reportedly told Tory MP Mr Davis to "f*** off" after he attempted to kiss her in Parliament after the vote.
The MP for Haltemprice and Howden is said to have moved to kiss Ms Abbott at the Strangers' Bar in Westminster before walking away laughing.
