HUNDREDS of firearms have been seized in police operations to stop guns falling into the hands of terrorists.

The weapons included assault rifles, shotguns and handguns.
Detectives from around the UK also recovered more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition and £500,000 in cash.

During the month-long operation, 282 suspects were arrested – just under half for firearms offences.
Detective Superintendent Nick Wilcox, of National Counter Terrorism Policing, said: “Counter terrorism officers continue to plan and prepare in light of world events.
“But we want to remain on the front foot and stop terrorists obtaining guns in the first place. Low availability is a major advantage in the UK.”
A Kalashnikov AK74 assault rifle
Police seized 833 guns including a loaded Kalashnikov AK74 assault rifle and a Skorpion machine pistol.
Mr Wilcox said none of the suspects arrested were terrorists, but added: “There are associations and potential links between people holding firearms and counter terrorism persons of interest.
