A speeding surgeon has been let off a driving ban for a second time
Magistrates heard that efforts by consultant Naseer Ahmad to slow down had already resulted in a patient losing their life and that he and colleagues also had to deal with parking fines as they battled to save people.
He escaped a ban under the totting up procedure last year after claiming he needed his car to get to hospitals quickly for life saving operations.
But in May, Ahmad, 42, from Gatley, Greater Manchester, was caught driving his Mercedes at 68mph on a 50mph stretch of the M60.
This time he also used his family to claim “extreme hardship” saying he would struggle to pay the mortgage on their £300,000 home and feed and clothe his three children.
A ban would mean him having to get the bus to work and could cost him his job leaving him unemployed with a wife who “occasionally works as a pharmacist”, the court heard.

At Manchester magistrates’ court, he admitted speeding and was given another four points on his licence – bringing the total to 16.

He was also fined £900 with £170 costs.
Ahmad, who works for Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, told the court he is expected to be within 30 minutes of any hospitals in Greater Manchester when on call.
He said: “My on-call duties involve emergency saviour of life or limb, or operating on those conditions.”

His lawyer, Patrick Williamson, said: “The defendant has taken steps to not have any further incidents of speeding and unfortunately that’s led to the loss of one life.
“He took further time and a patient suffered a heart attack.”
Passing sentence magistrate Ray Clegg said: “We are not going to disqualify you but it will be very difficult in the future to argue any case.
“You need to be very careful in the future because you will struggle to have any reasonable excuse.”
