Britain's oldest shoplifter: 'Bored' great-grandmother went on a five-year robbing spree
A GREAT-grandmother has admitted going on a five-year crime spree – because she was bored.
The 79-year-old has be slapped with a criminal record after her 39th offence for theft
June Humphreys, 79, has been left with a criminal record “like a teenage heroin addict” after clocking up her 39th offence for theft.
A court heard she started shoplifting in her mid-70s as something to do to fill her lonely twilight years and get out of her home town of Crewe, Cheshire.
She travels around using her free bus pass and pockets hundreds of pounds worth of goods.
The pensioner was most recently caught by a security guard after stealing from two stores in Stafford on December 12 last year.
When questioned by officers she told them: “I’m bored I suppose. I just wanted to get out of Crewe.”
Humphreys was hunched over a shopping trolley as she made her way into Cannock magistrates court on Friday to admit two counts of theft.

She was fined £80 and ordered to pay £135 costs and a £30 surcharge.
Chairwoman of the bench Lisa Elkington-Bourne told her: “You have got quite a prolific history from over the last few years so it’s difficult to know how to deal with it. We are going to fine you.”
The court heard Humphreys had 38 previous convictions, all committed in her 70s.
