Hammersmith station evacuated as controlled explosion takes place
HAMMERSMITH Station was evacuated as police investigated a suspicious package before carrying out a controlled explosion.

Commuters were ordered to leave the station in central London following reports of a bomb in a bin.
A controlled explosion was carried out.
Eyewitnesses reported a major police presence in the area at around 3pm.

Surrounding streets were cordoned off as police investigated the suspicious item.
The Met Police are investigating the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing police blow up a bin outside the station
Police officers were scrambled to the scene

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a bag in a bin with wires coming out of it.
British Transport Police attended the scene and confirmed officers secured a suspect package.
The station was reopened shortly after 3pm with trains running as normal.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Hammersmith station and surrounding area now reopening after a security alert. Incident is not suspicious. Thank you for your patience.”
