Driving you mad: Britain’s slowest motorways REVEALED
SOME of Britain’s motorways are struggling to cope with the amount of traffic, with the M606 clocking an average speed below 25mph.
The notorious M25 was found to have motorists driving at an average speed of 39.66mph
Despite the national speed limit being 70mph the motorway, which runs from the M62 in West Yorkshire to Bradford, sees frustrated motorists inching along at the slothful speed of 24.62mph, according to new figures released by tracking firm RAM Tracking.
The figures show that motorists are struggling to average speeds over 28mph on five British motorways, less than the speed limit for urban driving of 30mph.
The second slowest motorway in the country is the M32, running from south Gloucestershire to Bristol, with drivers averaging a tortoise-like speed of just 26.15mph.
Only marginally faster is the M9 in Scotland with an average speed of 26.74mph.
At the other end of the spectrum the M40, running from London to Birmingham, was found to be the fastest, with average speeds hitting a giddy 48.6mph.

There is no doubt that we have a major problem with congestion on our motorways
Robert Flello, a Labour member of the Commons Transport Committee, said: "There is no doubt that we have a major problem with congestion on our motorways.
"This will make the motorways more dangerous. There are also questions over whether it will improve traffic flows or give people an extra middle lane to hog."
The Department for Transport said: "We are making the most extensive improvements to roads since the 1970s, to make journeys faster, better and more reliable."
