In his extraordinary attack on a “lazy” business culture, Dr Fox said the UK had lost its way as a trading nation and had grown “too fat”.

But Innocent drinks co-founder Richard Reed, a Remain campaigner, branded the comments disgusting, saying: “How dare he? He is a representative of this country and he slags us off.
“The guy is a complete fraud. He has never done a day’s business in his life."

Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth called on Dr Fox to apologise for the unguarded remarks, made during a reception for the Thatcherite Conservative Way Forward group on Thursday night.
The shadow minister without portfolio said: “Every MP knows of hard working businesses. None are lazy.”
