‘What is the wifi code’ top of holidaymakers list of foreign phrases to learn
HOLIDAYMAKERS believe it is more important to learn “what is the wifi code” in a foreign language before mastering traditional phrases, a study has revealed.

Research compiled by staff at Gatwick Airport showed Britons were more likely to search the internet for information than ask locals when abroad.
And people are now learning key phrases in foreign languages to continue using their smartphones.
The study of 4,055 people found the most popular phrase learnt is asking for the wifi code, followed by directions to a local pharmacy and asking for a phone charger.

Almost 650 people also believe “where is best to get a good phone signal” is a phrase they need to know before travelling.
Corinne Usher, a consultant clinical psychologist, said: “People are relying on technology a huge amount and it doesn’t surprise me there is a technological focus because people want to stay in contact with home or work.

Expressions like “let’s take a selfie”, “are there any vegan options” and “does this car have sat-nav” also make the top 10 of phrases Britons consider important.
