Tony Blair believed Iraq war could improve people's lives, says comedian Jim Davidson
TONY BLAIR believed the Iraq war would improve the lives of the Iraqi people and told comedian Jim Davidson he was convinced WMD would be found.
Mr Davidson, below, exchanged letters with the then Prime Minister while helping bolster troops’ morale.
Mr Blair wrote: “Now we have removed Saddam’s regime we are committed to the longerterm humanitarian, political and economic welfare of the Iraqi people.”
But the OBE-winning comic, who founded the British Forces Foundation to provide free entertainment to troops and now runs the Care after Combat charity, said the Chilcot report made him question his faith in Mr Blair.
He said: “I watch the grieving mothers and fathers of our fallen soldiers and my heart bleeds. I lost mates in the forces and can’t begin to imagine the pain of a son or father being killed in action.”
Mr Davidson, who was in Iraq for the first few days of the war in 2003, added: “Did Mr Blair lie? Or did he believe it all? For the sake of the grieving families and loved ones who remain I hope he didn’t lie. I don’t think he did.”
