Builders discover letter from a child to Father Christmas believed to be 91-YEARS-old
BUILDERS knocking down a chimney were shocked to discover a letter from a child to Father Christmas - believed to be more than 90 YEARS old.
The letter is believed to be more than 90 years old
The 91-year-old note was found last week in Emily Nash’s home on Eastbourne seafront in East Sussex while workers were removing one of the chimney breasts.
The letter, dated 1925 and signed by E Short, asked 'Daddy Christmas' for soldiers, a book, a boat, hankies and chocolate.
It says: "Daddy Christmas, will you please bring me these things. Fort, cannon, box of soldiers, Indian, chocolate, boat, book, handkerchiefs. Yours sincerely, E. Short."
Ms Nash, aged 24, says she has no clue who lived in the house before.
The letter asked for soldiers and chocolate
It's amazing it stayed in the chimney for that long
She said: “I bought the house and asked the builders to remove the chimney breasts and they found a little envelope with a folded up letter for Father Christmas in 1925.
"It's amazing it stayed in the chimney for that long and wasn't damaged or removed.
The note was found in Emily Nash's home on Eastbourne seafront
"The house was built in the early 1900s so whoever wrote the letter must have been one of the first people to live there.
"It's really interesting to think about who lived in the house over the years."
Ms Nash would like to know who wrote the letter
Ms Nash said she would like to know who wrote the letter and if the person or their family still lives in Eastbourne.
Unfortunately the census for that year has no information that could help find the mystery author.
