Moment Manchester tram passengers stand up to 'racist' man after he abuses foreign couple
THIS is the moment passengers on a tram united to stand up for a couple of tourists who were allegedly abused for not speaking English.

The video, taken on a cameraphone, shows a middle-aged man being confronted over the claimed on the Spanish duo.
On the recording, the man threatens to call the police and tells the perpetrator: “It is unacceptable in this country and this day and age. I think everyone else on this tram would agree.
“It is not on.”

Another man who tells the bigot to stop then gets asked by the man: “Are you gay.”
When the man reveals he his, the perpetrator says: “There you go…I’m racist against gays now, am I?”
Witnesses to the event said the man told the couple to “speak English” and “go back to your own country”.

The incident was filmed by a man called Jose, who is originally from Peru but has lived in Manchester for the last three years because he is studying at the city’s university.
Jose, who did not wish to give his full name, said: “The couple were speaking Spanish and this guy was saying ‘speak English’.
“They said they would speak in whatever language they wanted and so he said ‘go back to your own country’, it was disgusting. He was being very abusive.
“But the reaction from the people on the tram was amazing, for them to stand up to him and tell him it was not on.

“You would only get a reaction like that in England, in fact I was speaking to the Spanish guy that had been attacked and he said that to me. He said that no one would have bothered to help someone in that way other than in Britain.
“As soon as he was challenged the guy just shut up and didn’t say anything else. Hopefully he will think twice about being like that in the future – and know that people in Manchester won’t put up with it.”
