Would YOU be wiped out if the world's biggest nuclear weapon struck your nearest city?
THE terrifying prospect of all-out nuclear war is the dark, apocalyptic cloud hanging over our continually politically fraught world.
The potential impact of the world's biggest bomb on UK cities has been revealed
Even with the smallest atomic bombs the effects would be horrifying but the full impact of the biggest ever bomb tested would be almost unimaginable.
These shocking maps show the effects on Britain's biggest cities of the Russian developed weapon of mass destruction.
Within a 40 mile radius of such a blast you should expect third degree burns and permanent disfigurement or disability.
Inside the 14 miles surrounding the blast site most buildings would collapse and fatalities would be widespread.
If you were trapped within six miles of the explosion it would be virtually impossible for you to survive while from three miles you'll be in a fireball zone - and dead.
Horrifyingly, if a bomb was dropped in the centre of London, it would cause the deadly fireball to reach Brixton and Kentish Town.
The heat from such a bomb would reach as far away as Southend and Reading.
Such a blast hitting the centre of Manchester would cause devastation as far away as Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield.
If Liverpool was hit by a nuclear missile Manchester would also be impacted
Tsar bomba
A Tsar Bomba launched on central London would impact deep into surrounding counties
Americans like to point to it as an example of how crazy the Cold War was, and how crazy the Russians are and were
The shocking visuals have been developed by a combination of Google Maps and Dr Alex Wellerstein in the website Nukemap
The Tsar Bomba is officially recorded as the must potent of all arms ever tested.
The hydrogen weapon of mass destruction, built by Soviet Russia, was tested on an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. It's yield was 50 megatons.
Parachutes were used to slow down the bomb to give pilots enough time to reach a safe zone 30 miles from the impact site.
If Manchester was struck cities such as Liverpool and Leeds would also suffer
A bomb aimed at Glasgow would cause havoc across huge swathes of Scotland
The devastating abilities of the bomb was actually scaled back from the planned 100 megatons as this was thought to have a serious risk of nuclear fallout, as well as killing the pilots involved in the test.
Scientists opted for the smaller version which was still 3,000 times more powerful than the American blast on Hiroshima. The Tsar Bomba test created a five-mile wide fireball that also reached high into the sky.
The Tsar Bomba was detonated in 1961
Speaking of the Tsar Bomba, Dr Wellerstein said: "Americans like to point to it as an example of how crazy the Cold War was, and how crazy the Russians are and were.
"Russians seem to take pride in it."
A blast in Northern Ireland's capital Belfast could reach mainland Scotland
An attack on the Scottish capital Edinburgh would reach as far north as Dundee
Topol 800 kt is the biggest nuclear weapon in the Russian arsenal currently, while America's is the B83 at 1.2 mts.
While these pale into comparison at the effects of Tsar Bomba the speed of which a similar explosive can be developed in an all-out nuclear war is a frightening unknown.
