Meddling Gordon Brown urges ‘patriotic’ Brits to STAY in European Union
FORMER Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to encourage Scots to stay in the European Union by telling them it would be patriotic.

He will say that Scotland could achieve a clear 70 per cent majority in favour of staying in Europe at the inaugural meeting of the Scottish Labour Movement for Europe.
According to the former Labour leader, this could be achieved if campaigners put forward a "positive, principled, progressive and patriotic" case.

He will say: "It is the patriotic vision that affirms that Britain is not the Britain we know unless we are outward-looking, unless we are engaged with the continent and unless British values - tolerance, liberty, fairness and social responsibility - play a leading role in shaping Europe and helping Europe to lead in the world."
A poll conducted by Survation last month showed 51 per cent of people across Britain want to leave the EU, while 49 per cent wish to stay.
The survey found 42 per cent of Scots want to leave, while 58 per cent would vote to stick with Brussels.

Mr Brown has previously joined forces with former Prime Minsters Tony Blair and Sir John Major in campaigning to stick with Brussels.
Sir Major infamously oversaw the "Black Wednesday" currency crisis in 1992.
David Cameron yesterday held talks with Angela Merkel as part of his drive to renegotiate the Britain's membership of the EU.

This comes after the Prime Minister was forced into allowing cabinet ministers to campaign to leave Europe.
Mr Cameron is trying to negotiate a four-year ban on migrants to Britain getting in-work benefits with European leaders.
He said: "The problems in the EU that we are trying to fix are problems for Germany and other European partners too.”
