Hit and run driver jailed for five years after killing student nurse
A RECKLESS driver has been jailed for running down and killing a student nurse taking her dog for a walk. Jessica Quayle, 19, was hit as she went on an afternoon stroll with her cousin Sandy Nevinson, 26, who was seriously injured.

The pair were run down by a Peugeot 206 driven by Kyle Braithwaite, 24, who ploughed into them on a narrow country road in Ulverston, Cumbria, in July 2014. He was travelling between 52 and 58mph despite coming up to a blind bend.
Miss Nevinson still needs further operations because of her injuries. Braithwaite admitted dangerous driving at Preston Crown Court this week and was jailed for five years and nine months. He will remain banned from driving for three years after his release.

Judge Jacqueline Beech told him: “You didn’t give any thought to the safety of the other road users, other drivers or pedestrians when you embarked on your course of conduct.”

Jessica, of Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, was in her first year of training to become a nurse at the University of Chester.
A family tribute described her as a “model student” and as “a beautiful fun-loving girl who had a real zest for life”. It added: “She loved her family very dearly... including her pet dog.”
