Last battle of the hero denied a bravery clasp
A SECOND World War hero who took part in 35 bombing raids has been barred from receiving a military decoration because he flew all his missions from the wrong air base.
World War II hero Theo Eaves wants the MoD to recognise his efforts
Now, after two years of complaining to the Ministry of Defence, Theo Eaves, 92, is taking his battle online with an internet petition.
So far he has 400 signatures but needs 100,000 to have the issue raised in Parliament. Mr Eaves was a Wellington bomber wireless operator based in Italy during the war, flying on deadly missions all over Nazi-held territories.

We were acting together in the same war
In 2013 the Government awarded the Bomber Command Clasp in recognition of aircrews’ bravery and service.
But despite risking all for their country, those who took part in bombing raids from Italy, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East are not eligible for the decoration – as it is only reserved for missions over Western Europe.

Grandfather-of-two and widower Mr Eaves said: “Just like other aircrew when we flew on missions we never knew if we would return. Half of us didn’t.
"It’s only fair that we get the same recognition. We were acting together in the same war.”
