British police officer arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife
A POLICE officer has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife at their home in Northampton.
Police arrested a 49-year-old man at a private address in Wootton Hall Park earlier today.
The man, a serving officer with Northamptonshire Police, has been taken into custody.
Officers separate from Northamptonshire Police will be drafted in from across the region to carry out the investigation
A post-mortem examination will be carried out later by a Home Office pathologist in Leicester and the investigation will be led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, headed by Detective Superintendant Kate Meynell.
Det Supt Meynell said: "A full and proper investigation is taking place. Northamptonshire Police will not be making any further comment on this investigation at this stage."
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
