Wigan boss Dave Whelan in ‘anti-Jewish’ row
A FOOTBALL club chairman was last night criticised for his “halfhearted” apology after accusing Jewish people of “loving money”.

Wigan’s Dave Whelan, 77, faces a Football Association charge for backing alleged racist comments by his new manager Malky Mackay.
In a bid to calm the storm, Mr Whelan admitted: “I said Jewish people do chase money.
"I don’t think there’s anything wrong in chasing money.”

But Jonathan Arkush, vice-president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said: “Mr Whelan’s comments are outrageous and offensive.
"His half-hearted apology does not go far enough.
"Racism will prevail on and off the pitch if it’s acceptable and unchallenged in the boardroom.”
