Brad Pitt attends premiere of Second World War film Fury with D-Day hero
HOLLYWOOD star Brad Pitt attended the premiere of Fury, a Second World War epic he stars in, with a D-Day veteran tonight.
The three-time Oscar nominated actor hit the red carpet with 91-year-old war hero Peter Comfort who served as tank crewman during the conflict.
Mr Comfort last September was invited onto the set of the film and reportedly had the Tinseltown star in "fits of laughter".
He also explained to Angelina Jolie's husband what it was like to operate a Sherman tank, the machine the actor operates in latest movie Fury.
The pair attended the European premiere of the film which closed the 58th BFI London Film Festival at the Odeon in Leicester Square this evening.
I learnt a lot from this film. We all walked away absolutely enriched
Mr Comfort first met Brad during the filming of Fury in Hertfordshire last year.
Speaking at the time, he said: "Mr Pitt was very friendly and charming actually but I didn't know who he was
"I said to him 'Until last night I didn't have a clue who you were and then I googled you and you've been in quite a lot of films'.
"They all rolled about laughing when I said that.
"I don't do modern films. I am a fan of actors like Alec Guinness, but of course he is dead now."
In Fury the 50-year-old actor plays an army sergeant named Wardaddy who commands a Sherman tank during the Second World War.
The film focuses on the machine's five-man crew as they embark on a deadly mission behind enemy lines during the closing stages of the conflict.
Speaking ahead of the premiere, Brad said playing the lead role of a US army officer had helped him to become a "better father".
The Seven and Fight Club actor has six children with wife Angelina.
He said: "I learnt a lot from this film. We all walked away absolutely enriched.
"This role is a real study in leadership and learning to command respect and because of this, I am now a better father."
He added: "This film is about the soldiers' exhaustion from the cold, hunger and the accumulative effect on a daily basis.
"We took that to heart. I hope the soldiers will walk away from this and feel they are recognised."
Fury, written and directed by David Ayer, also stars Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena and Jon Bernthal as Wardaddy's crew.
It opens in UK cinemas on October 22.
