Police look to p-p-p-pick up this penguin - thief strikes in giant-sized animal onesie
POLICE are looking to p-p-pick up a PENGUIN as they chase a thief who struck while wearing a fancy dress costume.
Ignoring traditional disguises such as a balaclava, the man stole ten cans of Stella Artois lager from a Sainsbury's Local store on Monday night, while wearing a giant-sized animal onesie with a yellow beak.
The man, described as "quite conspicuous", entered the County Durham store in Coundon just after 10pm and left without paying for the crate of beers, worth £8.
He is described as a white male, in his 20s, and was wearing a black and white penguin fancy dress outfit.
Durham Police have released CCTV images of the suspected shoplifter, captured entering the shop before he took flight.
Acting Inspector Vicky Guthrie, of Durham Police, said: "He would be quite conspicuous and made off on foot so may have come to the attention of someone in the area."
Classic TV adverts for McVitie's chocolate Penguin bars featured the iconic line, "p-p-p-pick up a Penguin".
Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Police on the non-emergency number 101.
