Former Radio One DJ Chris Denning admits abuse of young boys
FORMER Radio 1 star Chris Denning admitted sexually abusing 19 boys as young as nine yesterday.
Clutching the side of the dock to stand up, the 73-year-old DJ pleaded guilty to 29 offences from the 1960s to the 1980s.
In a clear voice, he admitted 26 counts of indecent assault and three of gross indecency with a child.
Denning, who is accused of abusing a total of 22 victims, denies 12 allegations relating to six boys aged 10 to 16.
The charges two counts of buggery, one of attempted buggery, one of gross indecency and eight of indecent assault.
Judge Alistair McCreath remanded him in custody at London's Southwark Crown Court until his trial which is due to start on November 24.
Denning, dressed in a grey tracksuit and blue striped t-shirt, is in poor health.
The court has previously heard he suffers from a range of illnesses including a Parkinson's Disease and diabetes.
In 2009, he had a heart attack and struggles to walk after suffering a spine fracture.
Denning, of Basildon, Essex, was arrested in April by detectives from Scotland Yard's Operation Yewtree.
In 1967, he was one of the original Radio 1 line-up when the station was launched.
Denning was also the first announcer heard on BBC2 when the television channel took to the air in 1964.
