Lidl triumph over rivals as its £12 whisky wins gold award
SUPERMARKET chain Lidl beat off stiff competition from rivals to scoop a raft of awards for its drinks.
It won 14 medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
They included a Gold Outstanding award for Lidl’s own brand scotch – the Queen Margot 8 Year Blended Whisky.
Costing £11.99 a bottle, the whisky was praised for its “striking nose packed with vanilla, coconut and citrus notes”.
Lidl spokeswoman Georgina O’Donnell said: “We’re delighted to have picked up this award, plus two silver outstanding awards for our malts at a prestigious competition.
Waitrose also won a Gold Outstanding medal for its £18 eight-year-old blended scotch whisky

Adnams, best known for beers, collected an award for its Longshore Vodka – the first time an English brand has beaten Poland, France and Russia.
Ewan Lacey, general manager of the competition organisers, said: “The craft distillery movement is on the rise.”
