Boat-tiful: Formation of Queen ocean liners is a majestic sight
SAILING in formation, this is a reminder of how Britain once ruled the waves.
Cunard Line’s gigantic trio of “Queens” made a rare joint stopover in Lisbon yesterday as part of a tourism drive for Portugal.
This encounter is a big honour and an acknowledgement of Lisbon as a major tourism destination
The so-called Royal Rendezvous for the Queen Mary 2 – the largest Cunard liner ever built – the Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth had previously only ever happened in New York and in their home port of Southampton.
“This encounter is a big honour and an acknowledgement of Lisbon as a major tourism destination,” said the port authority’s Andreia Ventura. The liners, pictured sailing in formation from the city, were carrying 13,000 passengers and 5,000 crew between them.
