Tony Blair puts a Loyalist painting on his wall
TONY Blair keeps a painting of a Loyalist mural showing the Union flag along with the slogan “No surrender” on his office wall at home, it has been disclosed.
The former Labour leader’s secret is revealed in a new portrait of him by Alastair Adams, president of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, which goes on public display later this month.
It shows him wearing jeans, an open-necked polo shirt and a jacket at his home in Buckinghamshire. Behind him is the painting by Ken Howard, who documented the Troubles in Northern Ireland for the Imperial War Museum, which was bought at Christie’s in June 2008 for £26,250.
Mr Adams, who was commissioned to paint Mr Blair by the National Portrait Gallery, said that it made an “interesting backdrop”, adding: “It reflects his work on the peace process.”
