Sex pest claims on ex-Lib Dem chief executive Lord Rennard dropped
FORMER Lib Dem chief executive Lord Rennard will not face any police action over claims he sexually harassed women party activists.
There is insufficient evidence to prosecute the life peer, Scotland Yard said last night.
But party bosses said they will carry on with their own investigation.
Lord Rennard, 53, was accused of behaving inappropriately towards a number of women.
He repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. In a brief statement, he called the last eight months “harrowing and deeply unpleasant”.
The married man was a key Lib Dem strategist. He was appointed campaigns director in 1989 and chief executive from 2003 until 2009.
Earlier this year, he was interviewed by sex crime detectives after several claims of unwanted advances.
Last night a Lib Dem spokesman said an internal disciplinary process would resume.
