Drink pilot facing jail time
AN airline captain faces up to two years in jail after admitting being four and a half times over the alcohol limit for pilots as he prepared to fly from Britain to Pakistan.
Pakistani citizen Irfan Faiz, 54, “was unsteady on his feet and smelt of intoxicants” as he carried out pre-flight checks on Wednesday, Leeds magistrates heard yesterday. His aircraft was carrying 180 passengers.
Faiz, a Pakistan International Airlines pilot, admitted carrying out the checks while impaired by drink. He was remanded in custody for sentencing at crown court next month.
