Mystery over Rolf Harris royal portrait
A PORTRAIT of the Queen painted by Rolf Harris has mysteriously vanished.
The painting, to mark her 80th birthday, has disappeared since the 83-year-old Australian entertainer was charged last month with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of children.
The canvas, which received hostile reviews for being unflattering and blurry, was displayed in the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace in 2007 and was recently handed back to the BBC, which commissioned the portrait.
But last night, Buckingham Palace and the BBC denied the picture was in their collections. Harris, of Bray, Berks, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on September 23.
