Dyslexic teen off to Cambridge
A DYSLEXIC teenager was celebrating yesterday after securing a place at Cambridge University.
Penny Banks, 17, landed a string of top A-level grades to read land economy at Girton College.
As well as battling dyslexia, Penny, from Honiton in Devon, also has dyspraxia – a complex disorder causing clumsiness. But the conditions did not stop her getting A*s in economics, physics and maths. She praised the learning development unit at Queen’s College, Taunton, for their help.
“I can’t think in a straight line and find it really difficult to write fluidly but the support at school has really made a difference,” she said.
Penny also took part in a campaign against global hunger, meeting Prime Minister David Cameron at Downing Street in June.
