Danger as 10 million motorists fail to get an MoT
UP to 10 million motorists are driving cars without an MoT, a survey has revealed.
One in three drivers admits getting behind the wheel of a potential death-trap.
Two per cent of those had continued without a test certificate for as long as six months, research found.
The worst offenders are in the South West and younger drivers are more likely to drive illegally – 39 per cent of those aged 18-24 continued to drive after their MoT had expired.
The most diligent are aged 45 to 54 but 28 per cent of them still drove a car without an MoT, according to a Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders poll.
Its interim chief Mike Baunton said: “A significant proportion of motorists forget the MoT, risking safety, fines and penalty points.”
The figures were released as the RAC warned motorists heading across the Channel they risk on-the-spot fines of up to £645 if they ignore French road regulations.
