Man, 64, dies after brawl in supermarket car park
A MAN has died after he was punched to the ground during a fight “over nothing” in a supermarket car park.
Police said two men, aged in their 60s, were having an argument in the disabled section of the car park when one man hit the other one, knocking him down.
The 64-year-old victim was rushed to hospital after the incident but died yesterday.
A 65-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The incident took place at 3pm on Saturday in the car park of the Asda in Biggleswade, Beds. Police said the victim, from nearby Sandy, was punched to the ground during the argument and suffered serious head injuries.
Paramedics treated him before he was taken to a specialist unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire, in a critical condition.
He died there yesterday surrounded by his family.
The 65-year-old man was arrested at his home shortly afterwards.
Detective Chief Inspector Tim Redfearn, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “It would seem an argument over nothing has led to tragic and devastating consequences.”
